A Bride, a Groom, and Their Beer

Here at Penny Photographics, we’re a sucker for a cute love story – and if you’re considering a Surly Brewing Wedding, we have the story for you! Join me as we relive their beautiful day at Surly Brewery.  (More about the venue later!)

Sara and Joel’s wedding picked up where their Adventure Session had left off.  They decided to have their first look at Tower Hill Park and it was as if we had reserved the park just for them!  We had the whole place to ourselves!  Sara was full of laughter and perfectly complimented her easy-going husband. (Is it too early in our story to call him that … spoiler alert?)  After some fun at the park we arrived at Surly and had the entire upper floor to ourselves!  The ceremony included a string quartet and some woodwind solos, paying homage to Sara’s cool band days!  After eating some of the best food we’ve ever had at a venue, we partied the night away and captured Joel’s “thumbs up” and a Dirty Dancing routine from Sara and her sister!

Joel shares with us the story of how they first met:

“Sara and I met through our shared love of beer! My brother, brother in-law, brother in-law’s dad, and I have been going to breweries once every week or two for some time. I took a hiatus for a while, but they kept on going on a regular basis. Sara heard from my sister about the brewery trips and started going with them. I rejoined the group after a couple year hiatus, met Sara, and we quickly became close friends. Our friendship, and eventual relationship, grew from there!”

Enjoy!

Getting ready reflection

From the get-go, Sara brought a beaming energy to all their shots!

Every dress is as unique as the brides we work with – Sara’s gown was lovely, and she looked stunning in it.

Mom’s busting out the fine needlework to do some last minute touch ups – we love capturing these special little moments in between the big ones.

Over on the groom’s side, the groomsmen were hard at work getting the ties just right – after burgers, of course.

It’s harder than it looks!

Before the ceremony, Sara and Joel did a first-look under the trees at Tower Hill Park – just a five-minute walk from Surly.

Off to Surly!

A little about the Venue:

“The event space sets the mood for an intimate and energized gathering for groups ranging in size from 50 to 175 guests. With the perfect combination of elegant and industrial design you and your guests are guaranteed a memorable experience … even though we’re a brewery we don’t just pour your beers. We provide you with a full-service event package: Surly event staff will make your day go off without a hitch, our menu options will have your guests go crazy and, of course, we serve damn good beer. Our event planning team will personally handle the details of your event planning with you, making sure everything goes according to plan.” – From the event section of their website

Then it was time to come together.

In the light of all their family and friends!

It takes a moment to adjust to the new rings, but for these two, it doesn’t take long.

Then we snuck off with the couple for some of our favorite shots on Surly’s deck, and they could catch their breath together and soak in the emotion of their ceremony.

In Joel’s words:

“My favorite moment of the day immediately followed our wedding ceremony where we had a little bit of time to ourselves outside on the deck at Surly. It was just the two of us, all of the planning was done, the stressful part of the day was over, and we could bask in our love and the support of friends and family.”

After a few moments to themselves, the party started – with cake of course!

They were cake-cutting pros!

Stepping out under the lantern lights for their first dance as husband and wife.

Dance contest – everybody wins when everyone is having a blast!

Sara and her sister reenact Dirty Dancing – nobody puts Sara in a corner!

And of course, a Surly Brewing Wedding wouldn’t be complete without tasty beer!

At the end of the night, Sara and Joel shared a special moment of quiet and togetherness as the party wound down.

Congratulations to these two lovebirds!
