The cold months are here along with proposals and engagements. Check out how to rock your winter engagement photos with these tips.
First off, I’m not the biggest fan of winter and everyone unfortunately has to hear me whine about it from November to March. However, when I get the request to shoot and engagement session in the winter, I layer up and get out there!
Winter is a totally different vibe for photography. The energy is different because the season is so unique. When I get the crazy adventurous couples willing to go play in the snow, I’m ready. And for those who are interested about having their photos in the winter, here are 5 tips to rock your winter engagement photos.
- Roll with it!
Sometimes winter gives us fresh fluffy snow, sometimes its bare trees and frosty wind. There’s still beauty in a scene to find no matter what a Minnesota winter gives you. - Break times!
I tell my couples that we will be starting and stopping weather depending. 30 minutes of shooting followed by a 10 minute warm up is a great way to get the feeling back in the fingers and toes and warm up those noses and cheeks! - Have a back up indoor location!
Everyone Minnesota born is winterized, I know; however, its a good idea to have a plan for an indoor location if the outdoors become too frigid. - Wardrobe!
Obviously we love layers in winter, and your engagement photos are no exception. Wear all the layers and cute winter accessories you have. After all, a fun part of winter is the hats and scarves and cute peacoats! - Have fun!
This goes for any engagement session but it’s especially for winter engagement sessions. You’re embracing the winter madness already by going outside so really embrace it! Run around and keep the blood flowing, have snowball fights, and play like you did when you were young.
Lucky for Addie and John, they got one of the fresh snow days for their engagement photos. So we had the chance to really take advantage of the cold and quiet scenery.
