This lovely Loft at Studio J wedding sat in the heart of downtown Stillwater and from the heart of Houston, Texas came the delightful Julie and John. They decided to get hitched in Stillwater in July because, if you’re going to get married in Summer and you’re a resident of Texas, you might want to be situated right off a river in the great North!
Although the wedding they had planned was ultimately altered by COVID, waiting wasn’t going to be an option. As John’s mom had mentioned, this day was a long time coming and they just weren’t going to wait any longer.
I had run into the mother of the groom in the bathroom and as we were small talking she said she never thought John would get married because he was pretty much waiting on the perfect lady and didn’t think he’d ever find her; but alas, he found Julie and mom said she’s absolutely perfect for him. Isn’t that just damn adorable?
Rustic chic and full of character the Loft at Studio J provided a quaint indoor ceremony spot for Julie and John to profess their joy in front of their 40 guests and many others over a live stream.
After months of planning and re-planning this large wedding turned small wedding in Stillwater just proves, yet again, that the only true expectation of the wedding day is that by the end of it, you are married to your best friend. Luckily, John and Julie did just that.
Congrats to you both!
Before the wedding we also asked them a few fun questions:
What are you most excited to look back on when seeing photos of the wedding day?
Julie – John’s face when he sees me
John – our experience of the day
Tell us your story! How did you meet? Who asked who out?
We met on Match (I’ve told Julie to say she’s a Russian mail order bride). Our first date was a Katy High School Football game at NRG stadium.
How did the proposal go?
We went for a hike on the Superior Hiking Trail (Split Rock Lighthouse Loop), overlooking a waterfall and yes, Julie was surprised!
Now that they are wedding veterans, we asked them for some advice and favorite memories:
Any advice for couples planning weddings now? Anything you would have done differently or anything you’d like to add?
Get an idea of your guest count first, that will determine your venue size. Remember that it is your day and nobody else’s…
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
John – my first look with my bride
Julie – seeing John’s face when I walked down the aisle and having our moment together at the unity candle… (Check out other ceremony ideas here)
