Wedding photography is often on a spectrum between art and documentation. While I pride myself on knowing how to use light and all of the techniques needed to create pretty portraiture, my favorite part of the job, by far, is the people. Last weekends Phoenix Hall Wedding was the best example of this.
During a fantastic wedding in Cabo for a couple Sam and Wes, we had the pleasure of swimming, dancing, and getting to meet Belick and Peter who were guests. We shot Sam and Wes’s wedding and came back to reality in Minnesota. A while later, we were so excited to hear from Peter and Belick that they were getting married and they wanted us to capture it. I ate up the compliments that we did a good job of capturing emotion and the joy of Sam and Wes’s wedding and was super excited to do the same for Peter and Belick.
Thus, last weekend we had our chance! The couple got ready and had their first look on patio of All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville. The rain had cleared and as soon as the couple had their first look, the sun came out and stayed out in full force, just to prove a point.
Accompanied by the many flower girl, ring bearer/security children and multitude of friends, the couple took the vows and made it official.
The party bus was ready to go with bubbles to escort Belick and Peter to their reception at Phoenix Hall Event Center.
The couple was most excited to do the celebrating part of the wedding day, and with a long summer day, they had a long opportunity to do so. Let the party begin! Into the long day and evening, the guests and the couple laughed and partied. We are so thankful to be a part of people’s celebrations and that we get to make some pretty photos but more importantly, capture some serious joy in people’s lives.
