Some weddings feel less like a performance and more like a quiet, joyful unfolding—and that was exactly the kind of day Katie and Eric created last weekend in Minneapolis with their Minneapolis Annex wedding.
We started the day at Lyndale Peace Garden, tucked away in the city but full of stillness and natural beauty. It was the perfect spot for their first look—just the two of them under a canopy of trees, the soft sounds of the garden all around and the waves of prom teenagers swarming about. I always love documenting first looks like this: nothing staged, just real emotion and quiet connection. I got to overhear about one of their first dates and how Katie had fallen off of her bike which instead of leading to a catastrophe, led to them falling for each other.
From there, we made our way to The Annex—an industrial-chic venue with a ton of character. Exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and a space that somehow feels both expansive and intimate and full of beautiful plants that made me wish I was better at gardening.
The vibe was laid back and informal. Laughs and love throughout the evening.
But the real surprise came during the reception.
Instead of the traditional dance party, they played bingo. Yep, Bingo, with all things couple specific.
Their small group of family and friends gathered, home made personal cards and candy markers in hand and the brides dad calling the cards.
These are the kinds of weddings I live for: the ones that break tradition in favor of authenticity. The ones that make space for people to just be themselves.
